Colonial Lake Cleanup Service

In recognition of the Earth Day, TCNJ XE participated in the annual Colonial Lake Cleanup sponsored by the Watershed Institute. Members and initiates came together on 4/20, and worked hard to collect 63 pounds of litter. Thank you all who came out to help keep our waterways clean and improve animal habitat in and around the Colonial Lake.

Concrete Canoe Competition

Congratulations to our senior members Matt Palermo, Mackenzie Bosland, and Johnny Lombardelli for a memorable showing at the Concrete Canoe competition on 4/14 held at Lake Ronkonkoma. The canoe placed third in the Project Proposal category and fifth overall. Special shout out to Mackenzie for keeping a smile while bravely going down with the ship! It was a day to remember.

Steel Bridge Competition

Congratulations to our senior members Dora Krstic, Matt Mentonis, Josh Romero, and Jill Stanton for third place overall and, for the third year in a row, first place in aesthetics at the Steel Bridge Competition held at Stony Brook University on 4/13. TCNJ was also awarded third place in lightness, third place in structural efficiency, and third place in stiffness. In addition to the official awards, TCNJ was also awarded a special spirit award for The Best Construction Noises!

2024 XE National Conference

During the XE National Conference held on 4/12, TCNJ was recognized with two outstanding awards:

Dr. Krstic was awarded the Chi Epsilon Faculty Advisor Award (read our nomination letter) in recognition of her dedication to making a difference.

Dora Krstic (’24), 2023 TCNJ XE President was awarded the Chi Epsilon Officer Award in Leadership in recognition of her excellence as a student leader.

Josh Romero is Blue and Gold Hall of Fame Inductee!

Congratulations to Josh Romero (’24), TCNJ XE senior member for being inducted into the Blue and Gold Hall of Fame! Josh has contributed to the School of Engineering and TCNJ through his tireless work as a College Ambassador, Student Engineering Ambassador, and Orientation Leader. Josh is the third civil engineering student and the second XE member to be inducted in the last six years! (see previous)

The Blue and Gold Award honors students who have made extraordinary and sustained contributions to The College of New Jersey. This award acknowledges our understanding that these students, through the quality of their work and dedication to the mission of the College, will have a positive and lasting impact on the student experience. These individuals have all proven themselves to be critical change-agents, excellent role models for their fellow students, and dedicated and able leaders in and out of the classroom. These individuals represent leadership, scholarship, service and the core beliefs of the College.

Homefront Drive and TCNJ XE Proud To Be a Civil Engineer Day

Our Homefront Drive ended on April 10th with our goal being exceeded 6 times! TCNJ XE Student and Alumni members collected just under 3000 pieces of diapers which will support five children for four months! We would like to thank our incredible Alumni: Chuck Turi (’20), Brian Rennie (’20), Charlotte Roarty (’23), Anthony LaRegina (’19), Ashely Hyde (’19), Mary Friedrich (’11), Danielle Galloway (’18), Hayley Conway (’23), Rachel Hannah (’23), Colin O’Hara (’20), Owen Soler (’23), and Victor Mazariegos (’20) for collectively donating $450 to the cause. Their generosity is absolutely amazing. This was a perfect way to celebrate all that XE stands for on TCNJ XE Proud To Be a Civil Engineer Day!

T&M Technical Seminar

TCNJ XE hosted a technical seminar on Wednesday 3/27. Alumni member C.J. D’Achille (2018) and Joe Vitale from T&M Associates presented their project “Route 129, Route 29 to Route 1” located in Trenton, NJ. We want to thank C.J., Joe, and T&M for providing our members information on the transportation industry.

Kiva Loan Reinvestment

TCNJ XE reinvested Kiva funds in support of Andrew from Kagadi, Uganda. This is our fifth reinvestment after we funded borrowers in Indonesia, Paraguay, Uganda, and Vietnam. This year’s loan will go towards school expenses for Andrew’s children. We are proud to help students from every economic background pursue education.
