Chi Epsilon

Our traditional Halloween corn maze race took place on October 24, bringing members, candidates, and alumni back to the Howell Farm Corn Maze. This year, we were also joined by a team representing ASCE. Congratulations go to our candidates, Nick and Ben, who completed the maze in an adjusted time of 13 minutes. Dora and Jill, our veteran alumni team, finished second, and our candidates Sydney and Lina finished third. We thank Amrit, Lindsey, and Allison for valiantly representing ASCE. All teams had a lot of fun and made it through the maze within minutes of each other. Happy Halloween, Everyone!

Huge congratulations to our advisor, Dr. Krstic, on being named Educator of the Year by the ASCE Central Jersey Branch! This well deserved honor highlights Dr. Krstic’s dedication to teaching and the meaningful impact she has on every single student. For the eighth consecutive year, our TCNJ XE members and candidates teamed up to pack special Halloween bags for the first graders at Highland Park Elementary School in Upper Darby, PA. We filled the bags with a mix of school essentials such as coloring books, crayons, pencils, erasers, and playdough, and plenty of fun Halloween toys and treats to celebrate the season. We’re incredibly proud to continue supporting these amazing students year after year. Huge thanks to our alumna Olivia Williams (’20) for bridging the gap and making this connection possible!

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members and candidates of TCNJ Chi Epsilon (XE) spent a meaningful day volunteering at the annual Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk on October 3rd. What started as a simple volunteer day has truly blossomed into a cherished chapter tradition, and we are incredibly proud to sustain this partnership year after year. A massive thank you to everyone who came out to help build and set up the event village today—your hard work made a real difference! We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to the event organizers for their continued trust and for allowing us to be a part of such an impactful and inspiring day.

The TCNJ Chi Epsilon (XE) Chapter, in collaboration with the TCNJ XE Alumni Association and the Department of Civil Engineering, successfully hosted its third annual Alumni Networking Event on September 12th. The gathering served as a bridge between current students and the professional community, drawing a diverse cohort of alumni from various sectors of the civil engineering industry.

The event kicked off with a panel discussion attended by more than 50 junior and senior civil engineering students. The conversation focused on the rapidly evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in civil engineering, addressing both the challenges and opportunities today’s students will face as they enter the workforce.

In addition to the panel, the event featured an open networking session. This provided students with a unique platform to speak individually with alumni, explore potential career paths, and learn firsthand about the professional experiences of TCNJ graduates.

The TCNJ XE Chapter extends its deepest thanks to the alumni volunteers, faculty members, and students whose support and participation made this annual tradition a success. We look forward to continuing this strong tradition of mentorship and collaboration next year.

TCNJ XE members and candidates came together on September 2nd to kick off the fall semester with our Invitation Social. We reviewed XE history and last semester’s chapter activities, then enjoyed local pizza while competing in a Kahoot game. We were honored to welcome a very special guest to our Spring Induction Ceremony! Prof. Raymond Nolan, P.E., a Chi Epsilon member since his 1969 induction at NYU, joined us to celebrate a proud family milestone: his grandson, Jack Nolan’s, induction into the TCNJ XE Chapter.

With a career spanning 60 years, including nearly three decades as a professor and program coordinator at the Civil and Construction Engineering Technology department at Middlesex College, NJ, followed by a successful launch of his own forensic engineering firm, Prof. Nolan truly embodies the excellence of our profession.

We are delighted to celebrate this special multi-generational legacy and offer our warmest congratulations to both Jack and Prof. Nolan on this shared engineering honor!

Finally, the TCNJ XE chapter recognized our honor member, Mr. Basit Muzaffar, for his support in organizing the 2026 ASCE Metropolitan Student Conference.

Over the past month, TCNJ XE organized a donation drive to provide essential school supplies to students in need in our community. As engineers, we understand the importance of education and how having the right tools can make all the difference in a student’s success. We packed 24 backpacks with essential supplies, including notebooks, graph paper, loose-leaf paper, stationery kits, composition books, calculators, folders, colored pencils, markers, pens, pencils, water bottles, and highlighters. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed, including our members, initiates, alumni, honor members, faculty, and staff. Your generosity helped us not only meet our goal but exceed it! This effort reflects TCNJ XE’s commitment to service and reinforces our belief that every student deserves the resources needed to learn, grow, and succeed.
