Dr. Nabil Al-Omaishi

Dr. Nabil Al-Omaishi has received his BS degree in civil engineering from the University of Baghdad in Iraq in 1972. He started his professional career working in oil industry in Iraq and the UAE before moving to Canada in 1989 to continue his education. He received his MS degree from the University of Toronto in 1993. His PhD degree was awarded by the University of Nebraska in 2001. Dr. Nabil Al-Omaishi has been a faculty member at The College of New Jersey for over fourteen years. During this time, Dr. Al-Omaishi has been recognized for his outstanding contribution to teaching in higher education by two prestigious awards in 2007: Educator of the Year by the American Council of Engineering Educators, NJ Section, and Educator of the Year by the American Society of Civil Engineers, Central Jersey Branch. Dr. Al-Omaishi has authored and co-authored numerous publications and has contributed to the civil engineering design practice by developing design specifications that stem from his research. His direct contribution is adopted and is currently in use by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and PCI Bridge Design Manual. Dr. Al-Omaishi has received two prestigious awards that reflect his outstanding contribution to the civil engineering community: Charles C. Zollman award in 2010 by PCI for advancing the state-of-the-art design procedures for precast and prestressed concrete, and the T. Y. Linn award in 2011 by ASCE which is the highest award given to research development in structural engineering. Dr. Al-Omaishi is a founding chair of the Civil Engineering Department. He has led the Department for eight years from 2003 until 2011. During that time, he completed two successful ABET accreditation visits. Dr. Al-Omaishi advised TCNJ’s ASCE student chapter since its inception in 2005 until 2012 and has served as the Steel Bridge advisor ever since TCNJ become eligible to participate in the competition. Dr. Al-Omaishi is a member of several professional organizations including ASCE, ACI, PCI, AISC and ASEE and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Nebraska, and the Province of Ontario, Canada.
