Fall 2021 Invitation Social

The Chi Epsilon invitation social was held on September 8th when we welcomed  7  potential junior candidates and one senior candidate. During the social, a competition was held where three groups were formed with the goal of constructing the tallest tower out of 20 straws and 12 inches of tape. The following were the results of the competition:

Winning design with a height of 39.5 in: Zach Hauptman, Shivani Savalia, Nick Scalafani, Elizabeth McDonald

Sturdiest Design and second place with a height of 32.25 in: Connor Conyngham, Anthony Cooper, Rachel Hannah, Hayley Conway, Charlotte Roarty

Best Aesthetic: Sean Healy, Michelle Andrascik, Ismael Nunez, Jack Lacina

School of Engineering Ice Cream Social

The School of Engineering held its annual ice cream social on September 3, 2021, a celebration of the in-person fall 2021 semester! TCNJ XE manned a table and hosted a game of ladder ball. In an ultimate face off, Dr. Krstic bested Dr. Bechtel claiming the title of champion. We look forward to a rematch next year!

Sofia Zapata is Blue and Gold Hall of Fame Inductee!

Congratulations to Sofia Zapata (’21), 2020 Secretary, for being inducted in the Blue and Gold Hall of Fame!

The Blue and Gold Award honors students who have made extraordinary and sustained contributions to The College of New Jersey. This award acknowledges our understanding that these students, through the quality of their work and dedication to the mission of the College, will have a positive and lasting impact on the student experience. These individuals have all proven themselves to be critical change-agents, excellent role models for their fellow students, and dedicated and able leaders in and out of the classroom. Watershed Institute Stream Cleanup

On April 24, XE members went back to Colonial Lake in Lawrenceville for the annual Watershed Institute cleanup. Sixteen juniors, seniors, and inductees, as well as faculty advisor Dr. Krstic, attended this service event. We were happy to give back to the community and already plan to attend the event next year. Thank you Watershed Institute for this opportunity!

NJDOT’s Smart and Connected Corridor Program Technical Seminar

TCNJ’s XE and HKN (Eta Kappa Nu, IEEE honor society)  chapters joined in organizing a seminar hosted by ITSNJ and ITE on April 21. Over 200 students and professionals attended the presentation about NJDOT’s Smart and Connected Corridor Program. Technical lab at TCNJ supervised by XE faculty member Dr. Tom Brennan was featured in the presentation.

Congratulations Steel Bridge Team!

Congratulations to XE members Andrew Agresto, Hunter Kelly and Sofia Zapata and the rest of the Steel Bridge team for placing first in the regional competition and advancing to the Nationals. They will compete against California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo; George Washington University; Michigan Technological University; New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology; Oregon Institute of Technology; University of Alabama; University of California, Berkeley; University of Massachusetts Amherst.
