This past Thursday, April 23, 2020, the Mayo Business Plan Competition took place. Congratulations to TCNJ XE Executive Board member Alex Iorio who came in first place as a part of Team Vortex, along with fellow TCNJ engineering student Jake DeGennaro. Team Vortex received the $30,000 grand prize for developing a device that helped local fishermen reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining and disposing of the waste line. Congratulations again to Team Vortex for placing in first, and hats off to Alex for proudly representing XE in the community.

This Friday, April 10th, XE celebrate Proud to Be a Civil Engineer Day by hosting a Jeopardy style trivia night. The game consisted of categories ranging from Civil Engineering knowledge, to music trivia. Thank you to everyone who joined us for a fun night, and congratulations to our Jeopardy winners:

TCNJ XE has been selected as the TCNJ Organization of the Week by the Office of Student Affairs! XE would like to thank the Office of Student Affairs for recognizing all of the hard work that is done in both the local and campus community! XE has continued to participate in helping it’s local communities through fundraisers, service activities, and social events. The Office of Student Affairs has also recognized XE with an Instagram post that acknowledges the mission of XE, and the pillars of the organization that are demonstrated through the club’s activity in the community. The post can be seen below, as well as on the Student Affairs Instagram page @tcnj_students. Thank you again to the Office of Student Affairs for presenting Chi Epsilon with acknowledgement of hard work!

On Saturday, March 7th, TCNJ XE participated in a community service activity at the Watershed Institute in Pennington, New Jersey. XE members helped clear areas with invasive species, in order to be able to plant native plants in the future. XE would like to thank the Watershed Institute for providing a great opportunity to give back to the local community, and the club looks forward to a continued relationship in the future!

On Tuesday, February 25th, TCNJ School of Engineering hosted an Alumni Panel and Networking Reception. The panel fielded a variety of questions about building a reputation, and working effectively in a workplace environment. Representing TCNJ XE on panel was current TCNJ XE Trustee Lauren Santullo, Class of 2017. Also in attendance for the reception and networking event were current Trustees and fellow members of the Class of 2017, Lee Collins and Peter Johnson. The panel was followed by a reception with networking opportunities. TCNJ XE would like to thank Dean Schreiner and the School of Engineering for hosting an informative event, as well as Lauren, Lee, and Peter for coming out to share some tips and advice!

TCNJ XE co-sponsored the Ping Pong tournament on Monday, February 24th. Tournament was organized by the Student Financial Board. Competing in the tournament was XE Treasurer Andrew Agresto. There to cheer him on was club President Hunter Kelly and Editor Mark Esposito. Andrew faced one of the top players at the tournament and narrowly fell short by a score of 7-5, eliminating him in the first round. TCNJ XE would like to thank the Student Financial Board for hosting such an awesome event with pizza and ping pong!

The XE held its social for Engineers Week on Wednesday February 19th. The members participated in a paper structure competition. Each team was given a single piece of paper, and twelve inches of tape to try and build the tallest possible structure. In order to win, the structure would also need to stand on its own accord for fifteen seconds, and no paper could be taped to the table. The competition was held between three teams, Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomore and Junior pledges. The Seniors came in third place, with a structure that was built to 25 inches, however it was not able to stand for fifteen seconds, placing them behind other teams whose structure was able to stand. The pledges placed second with a paper structure standing 20.5 inches. The Juniors were able to come out on top by building a structure that stood at 30.75 inches! As an added bonus the winning team was able to have the first pick of the celebratory donuts available.

TCNJ XE once again participated in the campus-wide event, TCNJ Holiday on Tuesday 12/3 with mini gingerbread houses.
